About Us: Senior Solutions
We serve as advisors, advocates and guides to seniors and their families. In addition, we offer access to affordable homecare.
Our history
Senior Solutions was founded in 1990 by sisters Sheila Saunders and Aimee Stewart. Sheila, an experienced family counselor, noticed that many clients were stressed over issues pertaining to their aging parents. She decided to offer services to assist and guide families to help reduce that stress. She partnered with her sister, Aimee, who was accomplished in business with a background in teaching. Together they formed Senior Solutions in 1990. Two years later, they incorporated the business to become Senior Solutions, Inc.
After two years working as care managers, Sheila and Aimee found themselves spending much time arranging homecare for seniors. Their experiences with existing homecare options were sometimes disappointing. They were frustrated when scheduled caregivers did not show-up. They were dissatisfied with the scheduling of different caregivers each day. They decided to offer consumers an affordable, dependable homecare option with an emphasis on consistency of caregivers. Thus, Caring Companions was established in November of 1992.
In 1997, Darla Heivly joined Senior Solutions as a full-time care manager. Darla brought with her many years of experience in human services and teaching developmental psychology as well as a background of working with seniors and individuals with disabilities. She served as the lead care manager for many years.
In 2008, Aimee and Sheila retired and Darla purchased the business. She has since strived to maintain the character and vision of the business while retaining the long time staff. In July 2009, Senior Solutions moved to its present location at 1611 W. Hamilton Street after 19 years at the original site of 44 S. Fulton Street. The larger quarters allow more room to accommodate large families, host caregiver education opportunities, and offer off-street parking and easier physical access to clients.
In February 2010, Caring Companions immediately applied for and received an initial license from the Pennsylvania State Department of Health as soon as these licenses were available.
